GAIA’s mission is to search for solutions for the suffocated settlement phenomenon along the principles of biology and ecology of buildings.

And Akman
Received his M.Sc. degree from the department of Architecture, Mimar Sinan University. He studied Ph.D in the same university while attending partially in New York University. He worked with Lichtblick architects for seventeen years in the area of ecological architectural design and building construction, after receiving his "building biologist" degree from Institut für Baubiologie + Ökologie, Neubeuern, Germany. In 2006, established GAIA architecture in Turkey and still working as an architect and consultant.

He has published several articles in the field of 'Building Biology and Ecology' and attended conferences as the invited speaker. Some of these are: 1994 Lehmbau Arche-B, (Meran, Italy), 1995 Arbeitskreis Baubiologie (Kempten, Germany), 1996 Habitat (İstanbul, Turkey), 2002 Ulusal Alçı Kongresi (Ankara), 2005 Living in Earthen Cities (İTÜ, İstanbul, Turkey), 2008 Kerpic08 (CIU, Northern Cyprus), 2009 Ekolojik Yapı Tasarımı, Malzeme, Teknoloji ve Çevre Sempozyumu (Mimarlar Odası, İstanbul)
